About the Region
Barataria
Barataria is well known as a residential area. Many businesses have begun settling amongst the residence as there has been an increase in economic growth. Banking, administration services, retail and wholesale trade or popular food outlets such as KFC, Subway are some examples of business types.
Due to economic growth, many prior land owners have begun or completed developing their spaces into rental buildings.
Barataria is home to the well-known soca artist, Cassie, who sang the catchy tune named “Town Ting”. There are recreational parks available for cricket, football & another physical activities. A hot spot is the Skating ring which offers roller skating, indoor basketball, cricket and football activities.
The area is well protected by the Barataria police service & San Juan fire station. A Health facility is also available for medical assistance when required. It offers ease for commuting to any part of Trinidad as transport from the Bus route, Main Road or Taxi are readily available.
Morvant Morvant is located in the southern foothills of the Northern Range of the island of Trinidad. It is bordered by the Lady Young Road on the North and penetrates the communities of Mon Repos on the North East, Barataria on the East, Laventille on the South West and Belmont on the West. Morvant was originally a village that housed many working-class families who made their livelihoods within the homes and businesses of the (relatively) more affluent middle-class people living in the nearby capital city of Port of Spain. Morvant has a reliable supply system of basic amenities i.e. water, electricity and sanitation services. Public transport is quite prompt and there are free Early Childhood Learning Centres next to most primary schools - all of which are funded by the government. Health care has improved as the health centre was relocated and facilities were upgraded. In Morvant recreational facilities are quite satisfactory, there are numerous basketball courts in the area and there is a recreational ground where the youths can play football or practice athletics. Much of the country's traffic passes through Morvant as one of Trinidad's major roads runs through here (Lady Young Road). It is used as an alternative route to Port-of-Spain; Trinidad's capital city.
Port of Spain
Port of Spain (Spanish: Puerto España), officially the City of Port of Spain (also stylized Port-of-Spain), is the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago, the country's second-largest city after San Fernando, and the third largest municipality after Chaguanas and San Fernando. The city has a municipal population of 37,074.
This city offers housing facilities to many ministries of the local government. It serves as a main transport hub for both land and sea where many citizens use daily to move around the country.
Many businesses thrive from the fluster of working class people who pass through daily. Some sectors or business types located are banking, hotels, casinos, food, cinemas, restaurants etc.
Port of Spain is very popular for having the largest round about in the world which is known as “the Queens Park Savannah”. Main tourist attractions such as the Emperor Valley Zoo and Botanical gardens are all located around the Queens Park Savannah. This city is where the most exciting carnival celebrations are held and are participated by many well-known celebrities.
A main tourist attraction is “the Avenue” where many persons gather on a weekend to whine down, relax and enjoy the many “hang out spots”. This too is another major tourists attraction as many celebrities visit just to relax.
