If you would like to discover what else Trinidad is world renowned for other than its Carnival, beautiful natural beaches and abundant bird life, take a scenic drive into the hinterland of the northern range along the Maracas Royal Road to Ortinola Estate, where you can take a step back to a time when cocoa was king and Cadbury Brothers’ used cocoa beans from the estate to make their famous cocoa powder and chocolate. Surrounded by the jungle clad hills of the northern range, the 140-year-old Ortinola Great House and estate, which was recently restored by a local family, is used not only as a conference/event centre, but also hosts group tours, where the mysteries of how the seeds of a cocoa pod get turned into your favourite chocolate bar are revealed. For a hands-on experience, I highly recommend combining the walk about tour with the chocolate making session at the end, where you not only get to sample the liquid chocolate from the bowl, you also get to take home your very own chocolate bar! Maracas Valley
Maracas Valley is a valley located in North-East Trinidad. It is separated by two mountains between Maracas–Saint Joseph and Maracas Beach.
The valley is home to the nation's tallest waterfall, Maracas Falls, which towers over the valley with a height of 91.5 meters (300 ft) and is the source of the Maracas River. This river provides water for the surrounding communities.
Maracas Valley is also the location of the main campus for the University of the Southern Caribbean. Trinidad's second highest mountain peak, El Tucuche, towers over the lush valley and bounds it to the north.
Due to this geographic location, the valley is usually cool

St. Joseph
St. Joseph was founded in 1592 by Antonio de Berrio and is the oldest town in Trinidad and Tobago. Originally named San José de Oruña, it served as the capital of Spanish Trinidad between 1592 and 1783. In 1595 the place was attacked and held by Sir Walter Raleigh and was used as a base for his exploration of the Orinoco river in search of the fabled city of El Dorado. Soon after his return the place was burnt and sacked.
St. Joseph is not an incorporated municipality. It falls within the boundaries of the Tunapuna–Piarco region.
Today it is the home of several different schools, including St. Joseph's Convent, St. Joseph, St. Joseph Boys Roman Catholic School, St. Joseph Girls Roman Catholic School, St. Joseph Government School, St. Joseph College, T.M.L Primary School, St Joseph and St. Xavier's Preparatory School.
